Boo iMac.
There’s been a lot of interest in using the innovative display input on the new 27” iMac lately, but, per this article, you can kiss a lot of the usages for this goodbye. Use it as a TV with a HD box? Nope. Same thing goes for using it with a DVD/Blu-Ray player. Hell, you can’t even use it as an additional screen for pre-unibody MacBooks. You might be able to do this with a DisplayPort-to-DVI/HDMI adapter that does a signal conversion, but don’t hold your breath there.
Just because DisplayPort is a standard does not mean it is or will be a popular one. It seems superfluous to me, and the only logical reason I can think of for Apple to be doing this is to save $0.04 in royalties, plus whatever hardware is required to do HDMI/DVI instead of DisplayPort. Either way, it reaks of ADC all over again…
