My Desktop.

I departed from my old theme of Aston Martins simply because this wallpaper was too good to resist.

I’ve also been forcing myself to keep my dock hidden, off the left-hand side of the screen. I don’t particularly care for it, because I can never tell if an IM is waiting for me, or if there is something in my inbox, or if there is something in NetNewsWire waiting for me.

However, it’s for all those same reasons that I also like it—it’s much easier to concentrate and I find myself less distracted. I also like the extra screen real estate. Much of this has been inspired by all the desktops that whiz by on my dashboard courtesy of Minimal Mac.

We’ll see how long it lasts, but I’m trying as best I can to hold out.

I have to say, I quite like having nothing but DateLine and my Incoming folder on my desktop. My Incoming folder is simply my “to be filed” bucket, and I try to make sure things don’t live there more than a week.

The only thing on my desktop is the “Macintosh HD” icon. Anything else that appears there is quickly moved to a suitable location in my carefully setup documents hierarchy. OCD, yes; Spotlight, no.

Mac users, do you keep your dock hidden? If so, on which side?

I’ve tried hiding it, but I didn’t like it at all. It stays at the bottom as well, though I keep the size of it down, with the 3D/glass effect turned off.
