Go Wired
No matter how well wireless works for most people today, the shortcomings of wireless will become more and more apparent in the coming years as bandwidth needs within a home become greater and greater. Streaming multiple HD feeds, audio feeds, downloading of movies, music, and games, it’ll all add up, and wireless simply won’t be able to cope.
If you’re building a new house, just put some of the blue* stuff in the walls. If you have a house, follow the directions in this link. It really isn’t that hard. Hell, I did it at my parent’s house when I was 15. Not only are the high speeds great when copying stuff to and from other machines in the house, but having wired connections throughout the house lets you place your wireless access points closest to where they’ll be utilized the most—and moved as necessary.
Just wire it. Seriously.
* - Blue just happens to be my suggested color for Cat5/5e/6 run through walls and such. Red for server patch cables, yellow for non-DMZ firewall connections, orange for DMZ firewall connections, and green for Internet connections. OCD in action.
