This new ad from AT&T proves their ineptness. They knew their network had the ability for their phones to carry voice and data traffic simultaneously for years and Verizon’s and Sprint’s networks/phones could not, and never touted or advertised the feature in any major way because:
- They didn’t believe many people would be interested in it
- Their marketing people were idiots
- It took Verizon advertisements for them to realize they actually had an advantage Verizon didn’t have
- All of the above
The only occasion where I’ve run into the problem of not having voice and data at the same time is on drives where I have Google Maps open, and I make or receive a call, but that doesn’t happen frequently (once or twice over the past two years I’ve had a smartphone). Anyway, it’s not a big deal for me, and it certainly wouldn’t play much of a role in choosing a phone or network. Would it for you?
