Giving Up On Netflix

…or at least thinking about it. I’ve had Netflix for around half a year now, and I love the concept. It even works pretty well, most of the time. There are two large problems with it though:

  1. The delay in getting new releases
  2. The limited selection of watch instantly movies
  3. The quality of some of the more popular “watch instantly” releases (most Starz Play movies)

With Blockbuster dying but not quite dead, combined with cable companies getting access to new releases that month ahead of Netflix, I don’t see number one changing anytime soon. Number two has gotten better, as has number three, but neither have improved as much as I would like.

All in all, for the amount of movies I watch compared to the number of movies I own, I’m probably better off canceling my subscription and just buying the few new movies a year I find myself interested in. I’ll give Netflix a few more months to see if they can get their asses in gear, but if not, I think I’ll give ‘em the boot.
