If Greenpeace Had Existed 2,000 Years Ago...
Most people outside of Japan seem to be more concerned about the failing nuclear reactors in Japan these days, which is incredibly callous, considering that far more people have already died due to the tsunami itself than will ever die as a result of the current issues with the power plants.
A Slashdot member (grumling) heads off the Greenpeace anti-nuclear drivel with a brilliant analogy here. I’m not going to pretend that there aren’t any disadvantages to nuclear power, but it really is our best option at the moment, and I fear that the worst side effect of the tragedy in Japan for the rest of the world will be even more resistance to our most attractive power source at the present (with reactor designs far more evolved and safer than the plants in Japan that really aren’t all that unsafe).
